I am a fully qualified professional translator with over 26 years’ experience in commercial environments.
I have studied and worked in Germany, and lived for an extended period in both Spain and Italy. I keep my language skills up to date through regular visits to Germany and Switzerland.
I have an M.A. Honours degree in German and a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation.
My initial training was as a staff translator. I subsequently worked for 18 months as an in-house contractor with IBM UK Education, and as a translation consultant to the world's biggest reinsurer. The rest of my career, since 1985, has been spent working as a full-time freelance translator.
I have been a member of the Institute of Translation & Interpreting, the UK industry body, for nearly 20 years. During this time I have led workshops and professional development modules for translators, as well as marking and moderating entrance exams. I occasionally act as a mentor for newcomers to the translation profession.
